We would like to bring to your attention the special ocean science diplomacy event “Ocean Futures 2030: marine genetic resources and global benefit sharing” at the Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona 9 April.

The event looks at ocean science diplomacy using marine genetic resources and global benefit sharing as an example on how science can contribute to protect, explore, exploit, and share the goods from the high seas as the common heritage of humankind. We will discuss ocean-related themes across the recently adopted Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) with the COP15 framework for biological diversity.

The event is organised by Alliance member the University of Bergen with Alliance member SciTech DiploHub and the Alliance as co-organisers. Other co-organisers are the International Association of Universities, United Nations Academic Impact, and the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC).

The event is free and open to all.
