The European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance and the Pan-European Research Infrastructure ILO Association (PERIIA), the European network of national Industrial Liaison Officers (ILOs) working with main Big Science Organisations, are jointly promoting the workshop “Exploring the nexus between Big Science and Science Diplomacy: an open debate on existing initiatives, key actors and potential synergies”, which will be hosted by the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI ERIC) in Prague and online on 9 April 2026.

The workshop – supported by ENEA, Central European Initiative, Technology Center Prague and University of Zurich / CHEF – will launch a reflection on the intersections and complementarities between Big Science and Science Diplomacy. More specifically, it aims to analyse current activities in the field of Big Science, explore their connections with the concept and practices of Science Diplomacy, and foster dialogue among experts and practitioners operating at the interface of international relations, science governance & cooperation, industrial involvement, research & innovation and higher education. Ultimately, it seeks to initiate an open and forward-looking synergies on Science Diplomacy in Big Science, while bridging their overlapping competences and communities.
