EU Science Diplomacy Alliance presented in Belgrade!

The EU Science Diplomacy Alliance was presented during two complementary events held in Belgrade on 13 May.

The first was the International Scientific Conference on Science Diplomacy, organised by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, whose programme included also a presentation by Jan Marco Müller titled “The European Union Framework for Science Diplomacy and Why It Matters for Serbia.”

Later in the afternoon, within the framework of the co-chairs’ work programme 2025–2026, Simone Arnaldi and Alessandro Lombardo took part in the event “When Science Meets Diplomacy – Exploring Opportunities for Serbia within European and International Science Diplomacy Networks.” Co-organised by the Central European Initiative and the Embassy of Italy in Serbia, and hosted by the latter, the event gathered a diverse audience of researchers, institutional representatives, and local and international experts.

The discussion highlighted the role that science diplomacy can play in supporting the EU accession process of candidate countries, as well as the importance of engaging Serbia’s scientific and diplomatic communities (and, in the longer term, those of the whole Western Balkans) in the dynamic European debate on science diplomacy.
