The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), a programme unit of UNESCO (founded in 1983) supports sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy and diplomacy. TWAS’s mission includes: (i) Recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the developing world; (ii) Respond to the needs of young scientists in countries that are still developing in science and technology; (iii) Promote South-South and South-North cooperation in science, technology and innovation; and (iv) Encourage scientific research and sharing of experiences in solving major challenges facing developing countries.

TWAS and Science Diplomacy: TWAS was a member of the S4D4C consortium and regularly implements courses and capacity building activities related to science diplomacy. Its focus on the developing world makes it a science diplomacy organisation per se.
