IRD is a French public research establishment founded in 1944, operating under the joint authority of the French Ministry for Higher Education, and Research and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. IRD is a key French player on the international development agenda. Its work is founded on an original model: equitable scientific partnership with developing countries, primarily those in the intertropical regions and the Mediterranean area.
The IRD contributes to France’s scientific diplomacy and is part of the “Roadmap of influence” presented by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. This contribution is based on:
– The role of the IRD as an international reference in scientific research for development and its action to promote the science of sustainability at the European and international levels, a science towards which the IRD is committed by its history, its areas of work and its research activities.
– Its ability to develop equitable partnerships that can facilitate the operational implementation of research programmes for sustainable development and to obtain the necessary funding from various development agencies.
