The Final Networking Meeting of the project S4D4C (Using science for/in diplomacy for addressing global challenges) entitled “Addressing Global Challenges Together: the Role of Science Diplomacy” took place between 15-19 March 2021.

The session “Training the Next Generation of Science Diplomats and Providing Opportunities for Boundary Organisations”, includes the following parts:

– S4D4C ON THE SPOTLIGHT IV:
S4D4C-consortium partners from the Vienna School of International Studies, the European and International Cooperation at German Aerospace Center / Project Management Agency – DLR and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – FECYT present the work that S4D4C has done in the field of training science diplomats. Outputs include specialised workshops, an online course, and the Open Doors programme. The speakers will also touch on the legacy and recommendations of S4D4C in this area.

PANEL ROUNDTABLE: “Training the Future Science Diplomats”
Different training formats give diplomats and scientists the possibility to develop their understanding and skills in science diplomacy. They help the trainees to better understand the interaction of science and diplomacy in the practice. What are the main challenges while training science diplomats? How can the success of training activities be measured? What could be improved in the future? The roundtable offers a discussion with external experts who provide their views on all these questions. Experienced actors responsible for training activities of different target groups and different regions recommend concrete action how to design successful training for the future generation of science diplomats.
